Seoul, Korea – May 12, 2014 – Chips&Media,Inc., a leading company in silicon video Intellectual Property (IP), announced today that its CODA966 and CODA988, the first AVS+ enabled cores, have been licensed to over 10 customers.
Chinese new video and audio coding standard (AVS+) has been applied to Chinese domestic satellite high definition digital TV broadcast channels and six CCTV HD channels. Recently Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic China and General Administration of Press，Publication，Radio, Film and Television, jointly issued the "Radio and Television advanced video codec (AVS+) Technology Implementation Guide" (hereinafter referred to as the "Guide"). In accordance with "fast forward, smooth transition, incremental priority, taking into account the stock" principle, "Guide" clearly classifies and promotes step by step for the timetable of AVS+ application which used in satellite, cable, terrestrial digital TV and Internet TV, IPTV and other areas. It is expected that after July 1, 2014, the vast majority of domestic sales in China for television and set-top boxes will support AVS+ standard.
In order to meet such market demand in time, Chips&Media launched CODA9 series IP supporting AVS+ standard in June 2013, and has licensed CODA9 series to more than 10 customers. And currently Chips&Media is the only IP company which can provide mass production proven AVS+ IP. CODA966 is a hardware codec IP that is capable of 1080p video encoding at 30fps and decoding at 60fps with almost all video industry standards including H.264, MVC, H.263, MPEG1/2/4, VC-1, Theora, VP8, RealVideo and AVS and now AVS+. CODA988 is also based on the same decoder platform with CODA966 and has strengthened high quality encoding capabilities up to 1080p60 with H.264 High Profile.
