Chips&Media's world-first HEVC Codec IP with 10bit support licensed to semiconductor companies

Seoul, Korea – May 16, 2014 – Chips&Media Inc., a leading video codec IP provider, announced today that they recently have signed license agreements with well-known semiconductor companies for HEVC 4:2:0 10bit codec IP named WAVE420™.

Starting this year TV manufactures are distributing low-end UHD TVs to boost their market share, and many content providers are spurring to get more UHD content ready very vigorously. Furthermore, brand-new smartphones capable of 4K UHD video capture are already being introduced, and more UHD products are now being widespread to customers across a vast range of products including handheld personal cameras, camcorders, sports cameras, and more at a very rapid pace.

Chips&Media’s WAVE420™ is a high-performance hardware IP delivering HEVC encoder and HEVC decoder, capable of processing 4:2:0 10bit format of HEVC that is regarded as the best video standard ever. It also realizes very low power consumption by the deployment of CFrame™ which is their proprietary frame compression technology achieving 50~70% off bandwidth on average. WAVE420™ is designed on scalable architecture and that enables to process up to real-time 8K 60fps with core extension.

Last year Chips&Media had released the world's first HEVC 4:2:0 8bit decoder IP, WAVE410™v1 which is now a silicon-proven IP by many multimedia SoC companies licensed for, and early this year they released the subsequent WAVE410™v2, the HEVC 4:2:0 “10bit” decoder IP.

Through licenses of WAVE420 that have been recently made and the SoC customers, Chips&Media now can firm its strong position in encoder IP as well as in their dominance in decoder IP.
